How To Create A Beautiful Holiday Tablescape

The holiday season is here and with it ushers in the time of year for extra parties, family gatherings, shared meals and get togethers.

Setting a table that exudes warmth, comfort, and the spirit of the holiday can be a daunting task.  From linens, to china, décor and flatware, there are a lot of decisions to be made.  We want to take this task from daunting to enjoyable, encouraging you to tap into your creative side and style your tabletop with confidence this season as we share some of our favorite tips for creating a beautiful tablescape.

LAYERS

We love layering and the dimension that it adds to a table.  Using a combination of chargers, dinner plates, and napkins is a tried-and-true way to achieve a layered look that draws your eye in to capture all the details.  You’ll want to choose the china first and build from there.  Having a few different styles of chargers on hand is always a plus, allowing you to control the vibe and theme of the table.  They come in so many different colors and textures and can also be quite affordable, which is a bonus.   We personally love our Lacemat as the “charger” and anchor to the place setting.  Its intricate detail will capture your eye in an instant.

GLASSWARE

An easy way to jazz up your tabletop is with glassware.  Not the everyday stuff, the fancy stuff!  Those gold rimmed glasses passed down from your grandmother that require handwashing.  This is the perfect season to use them.  And should you be fortunate enough to have family tableware that’s been passed down, it serves as a great table topic to share memories with loved ones.

CENTERPIECE

No table is complete without a centerpiece.  When it comes to the holiday season especially, we really believe a centerpiece that’s low is key to ensure it’s easy for your guests to engage with everyone at the table.  Low & lush!  We always prefer live, natural elements in a centerpiece whether that be greenery from your yard (magnolia, pine, etc.) or a robust arrangement of flowers.  From there, we seek to add a little dimension and unique touches by mixing in dried fruit (like a dried pomegranate), colorful vegetables like artichokes as well as feathers or twigs.  If getting creative building a centerpiece feels overwhelming to you, there’s nothing wrong with snagging one from your local florist.

LIGHTING

Soft lighting will create the most elegant meal setting.  Taper candles in a variety of heights, colors and shapes are a great way to add some fun with your tabletop décor.   There’s just something about warm, natural light that really sets the ambiance.  For something truly unique, check out our Paper Lampshades.  Simply slide them over the top of a standard wineglass, put a tealight (real or fake) inside and voila.

ACCENTS

When your table is dressed, take a look and see if there are any gaps that need to be filled.  A beautiful water pitcher or beverage holder adds another touch of character.  Another easy way to fill in some blank space is to create personalized place cards for your guests, custom menus, or chair markers; all of which add a personal touch making your guests feel warm and welcomed as well as enhancing the design of your table.

If December 1st creeps up on you and you start to panic amidst the realization that you haven’t decorated or planned your Christmas celebration yet, don’t!  These quick, easy ways to dress your table will keep your Christmas meals classy, memorable, and stress free.
