A Family Affair
The most common question asked by someone hearing about UASHMAMA products for the first time is, “Where is this from and how do they do it?” Not only is it a great story to tell, but it’s also an important story to tell because starting at the beginning brings the product to life.
Founder and creator, Marco Marconi’s vision was influenced by decades of skilled tradesmen that came before him. A third-generation shoemaker in Italy, Marco has a natural eye and deep understanding for fine Italian craftsmanship and quality goods. His experiences in the footwear business combined with curiosity in technology and pioneering methods to reduce environmental impact, was the perfect recipe for creating an innovative product. This creative vision is what led him to develop UASHMAMA’s signature material, a washable paper that has been named “AGGO.”

The next natural question is “what does AGGO stand for?” AGGO is an acronym created from the names of Marco and Emanuela’s grandchildren. Everything about UASHMAMA is centered around family, you see. Even the name UASHMAMA itself. Emanuela, Marco’s wife, is the inspiration on which the brand is based. Growing up in a home full of love and design, the name UASHMAMA (pronounced wash-mama) was born. It is a tribute to the mother that is devoted to her family and her home. UASHMAMA stores contain and reflect the dedication to the home and its impeccable taste and love for details.
"We understand the needs of families like ours and the responsibility we feel about our ecological footprint. From food storage to bagged lunch, backpacks to fashionable wallets, we’re honored to create alternatives to everyday staples.”The brand originated as a family business and each of Marco & Emanuela’s four daughters: Chiara, Giulia, Gemma & Gaia, play an integral role in the company’s operations. In the words of the family, “We understand the needs of families like ours and the responsibility we feel about our ecological footprint. From food storage to bagged lunch, backpacks to fashionable wallets, we’re honored to create alternatives to everyday staples. And the reduction in waste makes an impact we can celebrate.”
UASHMAMA is centered around family and it’s a pleasure to share our innovative designs and the joy of a sustainable lifestyle with you!

I was in Charleston and came across the store. I was fascinated with the material. I loved the unique look of the Aggo and fell in love with the story. I am Italian and live my life “La famiglia e Tutto “ with family dinners every Sunday and every holiday. So I was proud to support this Italian family business. Plus I carry a beautifully crafted, unusual bag. It’s a win win for all of us!
