How To Create A Great Tablescape

How To Create A Great Tablescape

A tablescape is meant to elevate an entertaining experience, whether it be for a special occasion or just a simple family gathering.

It typically encompasses your place settings, a centerpiece of some sort and the overall decorative elements of your table.

Having an elaborate tablescape for day-to-day living isn’t necessary but keep in mind that creating a tablescape doesn’t have to be labor intensive, complicated, or expensive. A colorful placemat and some clippings from your yard can take your table from boring to beautiful in a second. One trick to elevate your tablescape is to implement dimension. Try to mix textures and incorporate 2-3 different heights in your spread to keep your eye moving and capture that dimension that you want to achieve.

INSPIRATION

First, you’ll want to find your inspiration. Perhaps it’s as simple as a reflection of the current season; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Holidays are also great sources of inspiration: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

Having a variety of placemats in your home is always a quick and easy way to change up the color scheme and theme of your table. UASHMAMA placemats are made out of our signature AGGO paper and are hand washable. No need to worry about a washing machine shrinking them beyond functionality, stains sending them straight to the garbage can or wrinkles to always iron out. A simple wipe down or scrub with some mild soap and warm water, will keep our placemats in great shape. With a wide array of colors and shapes available, you can have several on hand to quickly change things up.

LIGHTING

Next up is lighting. Having some soft touches of natural light make such a big difference in the ambiance of a table (and room for that matter). Whether you use some pillar candles (which you can dress up and wrap in our paper garland), some candlesticks and taper candles or our paper lampshades, incorporating some soft lighting is an instant mood setter. And if an open flame concerns you, perhaps with kids around, you’ll love the convenience of our paper lampshades. Simply velcro the shade together, place it over a standard wine glass, put a votive (real or fake) inside and voila. Beautiful and truly unique!

NATURAL ACCENTS

Greenery and florals are also an obvious choice. Be resourceful! That doesn’t mean you need to go spend money on a bunch of flowers at the grocery store. Grab some sheers, walk outside and start clipping. If you’re lucky enough to have some hydrangea bushes, a magnolia tree, camelia’s, etc. you have better options than you would at the grocery store anyway! And if you don’t have any of those, just take a few clippings of what you do have. You can be creative with your greens by enhancing them with real or faux berries, dried (or whole) fruit, some of our paper garland or art crafts your kids have made from school (example: if it's a holiday).

LINENS

Lastly, dress things up with some linen or cloth napkins instead of paper. The laundry will be waiting for you anyway, so why not take the opportunity to add some color, texture and pizzaz to your table. It’s worth adding them to the laundry pile and it’s a sure way to easily impress any guests and reduces waste, which we love!

There are so many additional ways you can create a beautiful and elaborate tablescape, but we wanted to give you the basics to get started. If you’ve always felt that you didn’t have a creative eye or didn’t quite know where to start, we hope these little tips have helped you and we know our tabletop items will compliment what you already have in your home.
